Bonnie Bowers,
Owner and Founder
of Bodies By Bonnie
After teaching traditional fitness classes and weight training for years, Bonnie was introduced to Pilates in 1998 by a client who wanted to strengthen her body while increasing flexibility and not bulking up. Bonnie began taking classes at the Body College in DC and fell in love with Pilates. It made her feel energized/ tall /toned vs exhausted and bored at the end of a session.

Bonnie received her mat and equipment certification from the PhysicalMind Institute (a 450 hour certification) in 2000. Additionally, she holds a BS degree in Physical Education and Health from WVU and a masters degree in Guidance and Counseling from VPI.

Bonnie enjoys Pilates because it is mental, as well as physical work. When the exercises are done precisely, under the watchful eye of an experienced instructor, students will reap the benefits of greater stamina, flatter abs, improved flexibility and overall muscle tone. With regular Pilates practice, students will stand taller, and feel better.

When Bonnie is not practicing or teaching Pilates, she likes to curl up with a book and with her cats, Bella, Gabby, and Bogie, beside her; visit the Outer Banks with her husband, Bob, to restore her energy; and spend time with family and friends. Her other interests include golf, decorating, cooking, shopping, and yoga.

Her other certifications include NSPA Personal Trainer and Certified Conditioning Specialist, Biometrics, Fit Ball, Yogafit for Seniors, and CPR.

She is listed as an Elite Personal Trainer on the IDEA locator on the internet.

Bodies by Bonnie Studio offers privates, duets, and circuit classes.

What Bonnie enjoys most about Pilates is watching her students improve in their technique, and observing the way their eyes light up when they finally understand how all the pieces fit together.

"It’s wonderful to feel like you’ve accomplished something with your body or someone else’s at the end of the day," states Bonnie.
